Todd Blount Shares CEO Story Sept 12

I’ve just read the cover story of Refrigerated & Frozen Foods from December. The magazine awarded “company of the year” to Todd Blount’s business, Blount Fine Foods. Todd has participated in past Johnston Co. CEO Gatherings. On Sept. 12, Todd will kick off the discussion.

Todd chose our topic, “Hiring Outside Talent into the Senior Team.” Since the year 2000, when Todd took over company leadership from his father, Todd has grown revenue to $117M, moved out of clam processing and into soup, built a new plant, become a dominant soup supplier to club stores and supermarket chains, and made an acquisition. A key to Todd’s stewardship is that he’s hired outside talent into his senior team. This was a big change.

As your own business grows, you’ll often need to choose between homegrown talent and outside talent. Bringing in outside talent is an especially momentous decision for a multi-generation family CEO, but nearly all CEOs must eventually consider doing it. Todd will share his story and talk with other CEOs about the perils and rewards of hiring senior outside talent.
